BAT EYES and BOOT are two short films, adapted from their original monologues for THE VOICES PROJECT. Written by playwrights Jessica Bellamy and Joanna Erskine,  working with director Damien Power, the films were produced from a concept by Dan, who approached Damien with the idea for a new approach to adapting theatre for film.

In BAT EYES, 16 year old Adam (Ben James) cruelly teases classmate Jenny ‘Bat Eyes’ Bartlett. When he seeks her out to apologise, she has quite different plans for him. Years later, when least expected, the memory of this event comes back to haunt Adam.

Acclaimed by Short Of The Week as ‘A moving ode to youth‘  and ‘a surprisingly lovely, and yes, poetic look at nostalgia, innocence and regret’, BAT EYES is inspired by WB Yeats’ poem When You Are Old and based on the original theatrical monologue LITTLE LOVE by Jessica Bellamy. A vimeo Staff Pick, BAT EYES was a Top 10 finalist in YouTube’s global online Your Film Festival in 2012.

 

 

Produced by the same team as BAT EYES during the same hectic 3 day shoot, BOOT is a devastating account of a drunken night out and its impact on a group of teenage friends. Starring Meegan Warner and Lucy Coleman, BOOT is based on the original monologue by Joanna Erskine, which has quickly established itself as one of the most powerful pieces of writing for young people of recent times.
